Local Cruise to Brightlingsea

Celebrating Joyce's birthday on the Brightlingsea PontoonSaturday 24th April saw a Tollesbury 'Armada' descend upon Brightlingsea for the weekend. (No idea what the sailing was like, it was probably very good, as Nimrodel was sadly stuck in Tollesbury due to fitting out problems !).

More members at the Pontoon Party

Joyce's Birthday CakeHowever the weekend was made special with a 'surprise' 80th birthday party for Joyce Woodham, a past Tollesbury CC commodore and great friend of the club.
The party was augmented by an overland contingent including Nimrodel's crew, who like ourselves had boat 'issues' or couldn't take part in the whole cruise.
There was a cake, a toast to the birthday girl and yes we sunk the pontoon as certified by Bernie Hetherington Brightlingsea's Harbour master.

Cruise to Shotley - more detail on the Cruising Page

The crew at Shotley9 yachts and 19 crew participated in the second cruise of the season in what must be described as almost perfect conditions for mid April.
As everyone had a clean bottom and the wind had been favourable there was time for a drink or two on Dionysus, despite the late start, before heading off to the Bristol Arms for dinner.

It was bright and calm on Sunday morning. Out on the river there was no chance of sailing, and motoring was the order of the day. Around midday a workable easterly breeze of around 4 to 5 knots sprang up and so from the Clacton area, for those in no rush, there was the opportunity to sail home. All in all a first class weekend was had by all.

Fitting Out Supper

Stewart Wallave showing off his kiltThe Fitting Out supper was a huge success thanks to fantastic organisation by Louise and her team. A brilliant band, good food and wonderful company made the evening one to remember. Bruno Tonioli himself would have been rendered speechless by some of the dancing but this was soon rectified by some superb displays by the Scottish members of the club.
Dave Cooke & Debbie Apthorp

Debbie Apthorp dragged the Commodore onto the dance floor, but as you can see, some of her moves took him by surprise! A great night was had by all.
