My
father’s interest in sailing meant that I grew up on and around
boats. We spent our holidays on board the family yacht “Rosa Maria”.
I became involved in the Club at an early age, when it was then
situated above the Marina Office.
Tollesbury Cruising Club is a subsidiary of Tollesbury Marina of
which I am currently a partner with Louise. I have been involved
with the management of Tollesbury Marina for the last 24 years and
I enjoy all aspects of sailing and powerboats.

I
started sailing at Tollesbury back in the early 70's aboard a Peter
Duck class wooden yacht called "Golden Eye". I then spent some 20
years racing various yachts at Burnham on Crouch before I came to
my sense's and realised that I should be cruising! My last boat
(recently sold) was "Diana" a Cornish Yawl which I sailed back from
the Beaulieu River to Tollesbury and simply just enjoyed sailing
the East coast again. Looking now to buy a larger yacht, when I
can find one that suits!!

With
wife Wendy (and often with Ziggy our Bearded Collie) we sail Mornaque,
a Najad 440; the latest in a long series of boats we have kept at
Tollesbury.
A past Commodore of the TCC, started sailing as a teenager, became
an Offshore Yachtmaster, a lapsed dinghy sailing instructor and
RNLI Governor. I have owned a wide range of cruising yachts including
a cutter rigged gaff yawl.

With
my husband Jim and sons Ross and Robert, I started sailing on
The Blackwater in1997. We now sail “Quicksilver” a Maxi 1100 but
many members will have known our previous boat “Lionheart”.
Like everyone else, we have our favourite destinations up and
down the East Coast but our longer trips have included Brighton,
Calais and Holland. We have also cruised in the British Virgin
Islands.

Like
many club members, my wife, Carole, and I found Tollesbury
nearly 20 years ago and we have kept boats in the marina every
since. Our current boat is Ostara, a Hanse 370.
We have cruised extensively in the throughout the southern North
Sea and the Channel and recently we have made long summer
cruises to the Baltic and the West Country.
Although a mainly a cruising sailor I can usually be tempted to
join in club races.

I
sail 'Nimrodel' a 34ft Westerly Falcon with my wife Jane and my
teenage children Jessica and Rhys, this is my fifth year serving
on the
committee.
Like many others I started my sailing career as a teenager in dinghies,
winning my first trophy for coming last in a regatta on Windermere
in 1980. I started cruising in chartered yachts in the early 80's
and have
owned and kept a boat at Tollesbury since 1999.

I
started racing at age 5, crewing for my father in a mirror
dinghy. I took the helm at age 10, progressing to 420's &
eventually onto 470's with various successes over the years at
open meetings and a national
championship win. I took a number of years off to play golf, and
then
started sailing again. We now cruise primarily and I passed my
yachtmaster offshore in 2010. However the competitive streak is still
there and I
still compete in the locally organised BJRC race series.

A
recent convert to sailing, my wife Pam and I are now in our 4th
season of sailing in our Legend 36 'Breezer' which is our first
boat. We have two grown up children who occasionally sail with
us and two dogs who are reluctant sailors!
We have yet to venture across the Channel although have set off
with the best intentions twice only to be thwarted by the
weather, so we are looking forward to some better cruising conditions this,
year to stack up more miles.

As
a Leigh on Sea boy, my family are convinced I have estuary mud
in my veins, having spent far too much of my youth on or near
the water. With the encouragement of my grandfather I learned to
negotiate the local coastline in various craft, progressing from
power to sail. We now own 'Grey Goose' a 30ft Truman and
together with our teenage girls Alexandra and Liz we pursue our
hobby of sailing and every success (and failure) is shared with
our new friends at the TCC.

My
first taste of sailing was in South America, where I grew up, on
board a large traditional boat. While studying in Oxford, I met
Julian
and sailed with his father on board the family yacht “Rosa Maria”.
I became secretary of the Cruising Club in the mid 1980’s and have
since become more involved in the day to day running of the Club,
Bar and Restaurant.
