On Friday 22nd February we have invited David Foreman (author of
“Tuesday’n’ Me) to come to the club and talk to us about his
experiences whilst sailing solo to Brazil, and back via St Helena, a
15,000 mile round trip.
Having
been a family doctor in Orford, Suffolk, upon retiring he rebuilt a
Rival 41 “Tuesday of Ore “ specifically for short hand long distance
sailing.
He spent the summer of 2002 sailing solo to the Norwegian Fjords and
into the Arctic Circle, proving his vessel.
Then in 2003 he set off to the Canaries, then across the Equator and
Tropic of Capricorn into the Southern Atlantic and onto Brazil. He
returned in 2004 after crossing the Southern Atlantic stopping at St
Helena and the Azores, all single-handed.
He will have be bringing photo’s and video of his adventure, and
will tell us all how he survived and continued his trip after being
hit by lightning
His great sense of humour but attention to detail make this a must
for all who are interested in short handed sailing, crossing oceans,
and celestial navigation.
We hope to be organising a buffet supper 19:30 for 20:00 Hrs.
Contact David Knight (details on Committee page) by eMail or phone
to book places for this talk which is bound to be popular.
