RYA Training Programme
The club is an approved RYA shore based training centre and has
run Yacht Master, Day Skipper, First Aid, Diesel engine maintenance,
Sea Survival, Short Range Certificate marine radio courses and is
now also running the new RYA Basic Safety and Navigation Course.
Training Update and Programme for 2008
We have just successfully completed an intensive RYA Day Skipper
Shore based course, in addition to the recent RYA Basic Navigation
and safety course.
The
photo (left) shows the latest recipients of RYA Day Skipper Shore
based qualifications. The students did very well, scoring some of
the highest marks we have seen in the examination.
It is a daunting
course however, as it really is intense and is very demanding on
students and instructors. We would prefer in future to run the
standard 24 week, course as we think that it gives new comers more
time to learn and practice the skills required.

The new RYA basic Safety and Navigation course (photo right) was
also very well
received, by both the participants and instructors.
As we think that
the course provides essential basic knowledge to newcomers to
sailing and boating, we propose to run the course on an regular
annual basis, so that new members have easy access to this
information.
Training programme 2008/2009
Please Note that all the remaining courses (as of 29th October) have been cancelled.
The training centre is run for the benefit of club members and we
are always interested in comments about possible future courses.
There has been some discussion recently about possible Yacht Master
shore based training, but to date, there hasn’t
been sufficient positive interest to enable us to organise courses.
Diesel engine and Sea Survival courses are also available if there
is sufficient interest.
The dates for Sea Survival are restricted to the availability of the
heated pool!! so the available dates are from May to late September.
