7-8 July Wallet Long Race -- To the Orwell

Post by Scallywag » June 14th, 2018, 7:01 pm

Our annual passage race will take us to the Orwell this year. Planning to moor and dine at the Royal Harwich Yacht Club on Saturday.
Please let me know if you are planning to join us, whether you intend to race and how many people for dinner at RHYC.

Hi Jose.
We are not sure whether we will be racing as we may already be on holiday in The Orwell.
We will let you know nearer the date but we are definitely on for meals at RHYC x 2.
Regards
Jean & Rob.

I (Petrah) am contemplating joining you on the 7-8 July. However, I won't be racing - unless I change my insurance conditions. We would then be two (possibly 4) for supper at the RHYC - do we need jacket and tie to dine there? We may not join you on the return trip, as we may continue northward.

Hi Jose
Wave Dancer is intending to race. Currently 2 for dinner at RHYC.
Giles - I don't think we need jackets and ties.

Excellent, so we are 7. RHYC can't take us, as they have a large club anniversary celebration that weekend. I've spoken to Neptune Marina in Ipswich. They don't think it will be a problem, but they will confirm on Monday. In the meantime could you please give me your length, beam and draft.

Jose

These are the approximate dimensions I use when booking:
Starfire 31ft x 10.5ft
Nikita 33ft x 11ft
Polo IV 29ft x 9ft
Petrah 36ft x 11.5ft
Wave Dancer 34.5ft x 11.5ft
Good Rum 36ft x 11.5ft

As to draft, I think most of the boats are 5ft or less. Good Rum and Polo are a bit more but I don't think any are over 6ft - shouldn't be a problem in the Wet Dock!

I don't believe in omens but a few years ago Terry and I sat in the Isaac Lord pub on the Wet Dock and watched England get knocked out of the World Cup. It didn't end well - Terry and I made a bolt for the door when the police turned up......

Good luck with the bookings.

David
